February 2012. Residential trip to Rand Farm for Years 5 and 6.
Just before half term we took our older pupils on a residential trip to a working farm, near Lincoln. The pupils mucked out pigs, cows, rabbits, hens and reindeer. We were very well looked after. The food was amazing and the dormitories very comfortable. The children learned about modern farming methods in a fun environment. We hope to put on a residential trip every year, and are currently organising next year's trip. Venue will be announced in due course.

The calves, kids and lambs need bottle feeding regularly It was lovely to handle the rabbits
We cleaned out the pigs, rabbits etc. before our cooked breakfast. Mr. Dennet from Dennet's ice cream spoke to us and we tasted different varieties. Our tractor ride around the farm The gokarts were fun.

Our reception class put on a puppet show!

Reception children have been busy making their own puppets, thinking carefully about the character they are portraying. Then they have practised every day this week in readiness for the big puppet show. Today, the children invited their parents, the Nursery children and Class 3 to watch their puppet show. Everyone knew exactly when to come in, and it was a great success.

Christmas at Bicker Prep 2011.

The Upper School Christmas musical was 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears.'
After three wonderful performances for parents and friends, the children finished off the week with a trip to Boston to see the Pantomime 'Peter Pan'. They then enjoyed a wonderful Christmas lunch and an afternoon of Christmas Craft activities.

Christmas for Foundation Stage children began with a visit by the Magic Man, closely followed by a visit from Santa. The children enjoyed a lovely lunch provided by our Parents' Association and continue to enjoy the Santa's grotto area outside the Nursery.

We love our times at the Environmental Area, which is just across the road from the main school building.

Our Silver Birch woodland is glorious with cowslips in Spring. The dappled shade provides the perfect environment for them to spread abundantly.

Horse Chestnut trees provide a lovely place to have a chat. In the Autumn we collect the conkers and enjoy playing in the piles of leaves. We often see squirrels scampering in the trees.

We are often able to take our Topic Work outside and learn about Science, History and Geography outdoors. Children remember things they have discovered for themselves through exploration and 'hands on' involvement.

Children use their imagination as they plan new games together. It is lovely to see children from different year groups playing together.

Children learn to respect the planted areas where hedgehogs may be hiding and birds may be nesting.

The Coachhouse facilities.
The older children love to have lessons in this special facility so close to nature. Adjoining the study room, is 'the train room'. As you will see from the photographs below, the children are mesmorised as trains visit the station, cross the bridges and are diverted onto different lines. The train room has led to some fascinating historical discussions; these experiences will stay in the memory of our pupils for many years to come.

Bikeability. A Cycling proficiency scheme.
We aim to run a cycling proficiency scheme annually as part of our extensive road safety training curriculum. This is to ensure that our pupils are better equipped for transition to Secondary Schools.

Road safety training at Bicker is an ongoing part of the PHSE curriculum. Here, pupils are working with Boston Highways officers to learn to cross the roads in Bicker safely. They learnt to look out for cars reversing out of driveways and to find a safe place to cross.

Each term, we aim to have a Topic Day, where each class in the Upper School celebrate their learning through drama, music and practical activities. Parents are invited into school to see what each class has been learning.

Class 5: November 2011. 'Early Britain.'

Class 4 have been studying the Egyptians this term. They thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to dress up as an Egyptian and experience Egyptian food, music and writing.

Class 3 enjoyed a Science Day in November. They were looking at changing materials.Years 1 and 2 baked bread, decorated buns with chocolate and made stripy jelly! At the end of the day, parents were invited in to see all that their children had taken part in during the day. The children were able to explain why different materials changed when heated and knew which changes were reversible and which were not.

Christmas at Bicker 2011.
Class 3 enjoyed finding out about the history of homes in the village with our Principal and their class teacher. They then finished their walk by admiring our beautiful Christmas tree. The children were able to find decorations which were very old and some which were from other countries. There was a chocolate for each child hanging from the tree!
